Hours: Full-time 37 hours per week Monday – Friday 9-5pm (occasional weekends)
Our client, a specialist Domestic Violence charity based in Birmingham is looking to recruit a Children’s Development Worker to work with children and young people aged 0-18 who have experienced/witnessed domestic abuse. Designing and delivering creative activities that make a difference to the lives of children and young people through age specific support, play and educational activities
Synopsis of duties:
- Design and deliver an age appropriate weekly programme of both structured and free play activities with the aim to promoting more appropriate behaviour, enhanced interpersonal skills and improved emotional wellbeing
- Identify support needs of every child and young person and work with support workers, voluntary and statutory providers to ensure needs are met
- Engage and build a rapport with the children, including them in activities that allow them to enjoy new experiences and create
- Review and maintain contract monitoring systems to ensure that the agreed outcomes are achieved
- To produce monthly/quarterly reports and monitoring information on the progress of contract outcomes achieved
- Create opportunities for children and young people to participate in shaping and improving the service
- Carry out annual reviews of the service and evaluate activity sessions to ensure continuous improvement
- Create and maintain effective working relationships with external agencies to support the needs of children and young people
- Take a lead for the purchase or hire of any equipment required to deliver the children and young people’s service
- To organise consultations, meetings and play sessions with children and parents and to ensure parents are included in their children’s play and development.
- To organise and lead on offsite activities during half term for children
- To maintain links with health workers, schools, nurseries, social workers etc and agree
- To attend social services case conferences that relate to children and young people within refuge provision
- Work closely with support workers to provide support to children who live in the community.
- To advocate on behalf of children, where necessary, throughout adhering to Child Protection procedures.
Essential Requirements:
- A suitable child/youth related qualification e.g. NNEB, NVQ Early Years Child Care Level 3, youth work qualification, teaching qualification.
- Extensive experience of working with women and children who have been/are victims of domestic abuse in Refuge and/or Community based programmes.
- Working with vulnerable adults and children, including those with complex needs.
- Working in a team.
- Keeping written/electronic records and evaluations.
