Domestic Violence Support Worker

Role:               Domestic Violence Support Worker

Based:            South-East London

Rate:               £16 per hour

Start Date:      ASAP

Duration:        3 months temp

Hours:             Full Time – 37.5 hours

 

Our client, a leading charity, with the mission to support women through affordable housing who are fleeing domestic abuse, survivors of trafficking or are leaving prison, are looking for a Domestic Violence Support Worker to join their team.

 

The role will include working within a team, providing a safe and powerful environment to women and their children, who are or have experienced domestic abuse, in a refuge setting and out in the community.

 

Synopsis of duties:

  • Supporting women and children fleeing domestic abuse in a refuge setting and women and men who have experienced/are experiencing domestic abuse in the community
  • Managing your own caseload, completing risk and needs assessments and agreeing support and safety plans, supporting clients with their practical and emotional needs
  • Inducting new service users into the service and providing practical and emotional support to women and their children
  • Assisting clients into the community to access any additional services
  • Assisting with welfare and benefits application, acting as an advocate where possible
  • Enabling service users with access to appropriate health care and specialist support
  • Encouraging and supporting service users with access to education, training, and employment
  • Supporting clients to understand and access their legal and housing rights
  • Referring clients to additional services and professionals
  • Liaising with a range of partner agencies

 

Essential Requirements:

  • An understanding of domestic abuse and the dynamics of abuse/ types of abuse
  • Experience of working with vulnerable clients (specifically women who have experienced domestic abuse)
  • Experience completing risk assessments, needs assessments and support plans
  • Aware of relevant legislation relating to Domestic Abuse, the Housing Act and Children’s Act
  • Experience working in a person-centred way, using a trauma-informed approach
  • Have an enhanced DBS dated within the last 12 months or on the Update Service
