Our client, a well-respected charity, is looking for a Teenage Intimate Partner Abuse Support Worker (TIPAS) to  give young people knowledge and understanding about domestic abuse and sexual exploitation, its cause, who it happens to, its effects, how to recognise abusive tactics and behaviours, and how to form healthy, non-abusive relationships.

Synopsis of duties:

  • To give young people knowledge and understanding about domestic abuse and sexual exploitation, its cause, who it happens to, its effects, how to recognise abusive tactics and behaviours, and how to form healthy, non-abusive relationships.
  • To enable young people to reduce the impact of domestic abuse and sexual exploitation on young people.
  • To promote social cohesion and social inclusion and reduce anti-social behaviour.
  • To equip young people to know where to seek help and support for domestic abuse.
  • To support young people to recognise how society and the media impacts on beliefs and behaviours, ideas, fears, wishes etc., in a safe place.
  • To provide protection for young people, thus reducing immediate risk.
  • To break the cycle of abuse, whether as perpetrator, victim or offender.
  • To empower young people to make safe choices and to develop an individual safety and support plan, if receiving one-to-one support or group work.
  • To support young people to look critically at how social media can be used to increase or decrease young people's safety.
  • To allow young people to develop or increase their sense of confidence and self-worth.
  • To provide support, advice and assistance to young people who have experienced domestic abuse living in the community and in refuge.
  • To work to empower and support young people to make positive choices.
  • To provide group work and holistic one to one support including exploring healthy relationships, expressing emotions, safety, wellbeing, education and family relationships.

Essential requirements

  • Experience of providing support to young people and children under stress and who are vulnerable
  • Demonstrable experience of supporting individuals within the context of a helping environment, both face to face and on the telephone
  • Experience of working with children and young people.
  • An understanding and knowledge of child protection and safeguarding.
  • An understanding of and ability to practice confidentiality.
  • A clean driving licence and car owner.
